Project:
Alexander Campbell Mansion
Location: Bethany, West Virginia
Facility End Use: National Historic Landmark
Completion Date: Summer 2007
Follansbee Product: KlassicKolors®
The Alexander Campbell Mansion, originally built in 1790 and located on the Bethany College campus in Bethany, WV, was considered an elaborate residence in a frontier community.
Today, the National Historic Landmark is open daily for tours. The structure contains its original limestone foundation and oak floors, which are still sound. Rooms inside of the home feature decorations and furniture from the period, including the original French wallpaper and Alexander Campbell’s original bed. Additions to the home over a 45-year period increased the total number of rooms to 27, including a parlor, a study and numerous bedrooms.
A recent re-roof of the facility called for a material that would complement the longevity and style of the original 18th century architecture. Bethany College chose Follansbee’s KlassicKolors® in a vivid shade of red as the modern replacement to the antiquated roof. The new roof beautifully imitates the historic roofing style and color of the original roof, while reflecting the quality and durability of other building materials used on the Campbell Mansion.
KlassicKolors is a pre-painted Terne II® roof coated with Follansbee’s patented ZT® (zinc/tin) alloy and then painted with solar reflective coatings. The ZT alloy extends the life of the metal and provides enhanced durability. Available in designer and custom colors, the coating’s low sheen gives a traditional look for new and existing construction and restoration projects.
